National Visions and Plans
Countries make occasional minor adjustments to approaches and implementation of flood risk management efforts as a matter of course. However, occasionally a country will be prompted to reconsider in a more major fashion its policies, organization, or implementation. These reconsiderations can be a driver for re-energizing flood risk management, whether through the adoption of new policies that address prior concerns, by focusing public attention and sometimes making additional funding available, and by establishing date-certain goals for desired progress.
This session highlighted recent reconsiderations of national flood risk management visions and plans. Presentations focused on the driver for the reconsideration, how current thinking in the field was incorporated, major changes either anticipated or resulting, and how the reconsideration may have raised the bar on national flood risk management implementation.
